Wal-Mart has decided to stop selling Amazon.com's Kindle products, in a clear sign of increasing competition between the world's largest retailer and its growing online rival. The move follows a similar recent decision by Target.
According to Reuters, Wal-Mart circulated a memo to store managers yesterday about the change in policy.
"We have recently made the business decision to not carry Amazon tablets and eReaders beyond our existing inventory and purchase commitments," the memo said. "This includes all Amazon Kindle models current and recently announced."
The story notes that a Wal-Mart spokeswoman confirmed the decision and said the company would continue to sell various other tablets, eReaders and accessories. Amazon declined to comment.
A search for "Kindle" on Walmart.com this morning turned up listings for a whole lot of tablets. But no Kindles.
