Romney Actively Involved in Campaign's Social Media Effort

This article is more than 10 years old.

Mitt Romney is playing an active role in his campaign's social media operation, according to Romney campaign digital director Zac Moffatt. Speaking on a panel at the Republican National Convention yesterday, Moffatt said that Romney frequently passes along ideas for tweets and is aware of everything that is tweeted on the campaign's behalf.

Asked by National Journal Correspondant Major Garrett midway through the panel whether Romney writes his own tweets, or has ever written one, Moffatt replied "He has definitely written his own," adding that Romney is less engaged at this point of the campaign but continues to be involved.

Moffatt gave some insight into how Romney interacts with his social media team. "More often than not, we'll get an email with a photo in it saying this would be great to tweet out," said Moffatt. "That's a lot easier for me to move through the process, when he emails in," he added.

Moffatt also pointed out that, at this point in its evolution, social media may just be impossible to ignore. "That's the reality of social," he said. "It's kind of ever present, it's in your life and it touches you in different ways and, even someone as busy as Governor Romney, it gets involved in his life."

Mitt Romney isn't the only Romney involved the campaign's social media effort. "The five boys, they're always part of the process," Moffatt said. "They come bring a lot of things to our attention."
