Justin Bieber Replaces Himself At Number One

This article is more than 8 years old.

Bieber can now add another impressive charting feat to his already storied record. His single “Love Yourself” has jumped up to number one on the Hot 100, knocking his previous single “Sorry” down to number two. In doing so, he becomes a member of the very exclusive group of artists that have replaced themselves in the top spot. Bieber is now the twelfth artist in history to switch his number one hits , with The Weeknd and Taylor Swift accomplishing the feat most recently. That list also includes the Beatles, Boyz II Men, Puff Daddy, Ja Rule, Nelly, OutKast, Usher, T.I., and the Black Eyed Peas.

After many weeks of working its way up the charts, third Purpose single “Love Yourself” has finally usurped the throne—something that has already happened around the world in the past few months. The song went to the top of the singles tallies in Australia, the U.K., and much of Europe weeks ago. In fact, the United States is lagging behind a bit here, as the song just vacated the number one position in Australia, where it had lead for seven weeks. So far, all three of the singles released from number one album Purpose have made their way to the summit.

After three weeks at number one, “Sorry” has begun to work its way down the Hot 100, settling at number two this week. The song initially debuted in the runner up position months ago, as it was competing with Adele’s “Hello”. It logged many frames at number two before finally besting the melancholy ballad to become the pop star’s second chart-topper.

Alt-rockers Twenty One Pilots see their crossover hit “Stressed Out” hit a new peak this week, as it rises from number four to number three, while Adele’s former ten week leader “Hello” continues its descent, dropping to number four.

Rapper Flo Rida’s latest single, “My House”, finally breaks into the top ten, bouncing from number twelve to number five. The track marks his seventh to hit the top five and his eleventh top ten. “My House” is the third single from the appropriately-titled My House EP, following “G.D.F.R.”, which made it to number eight last year, and “I Don’t Like It, I Love It (ft. Robin Thicke and Verdine White)”, which stalled just before hitting the top 40.

The Chainsmoker’s “Roses (ft. Rozes)” is also up to a new height this week, rising from number eight to six in its second week in the region.

Selena Gomez can add another top ten hit to her discography, as her latest, “Hands To Myself”, makes an enormous leap from number twenty one to number seven. The song has been a fan favorite since the singer’s Revival album dropped last October, and now it has become the third top ten from the former chart-topping album. Gomez's other single, "Same Old Love", is right behind "Myself" at number eight.

Rihanna’s “Work (ft. Drake)” is the last new title in this week’s busy top ten. The track debuts at number nine thanks to an impressive number of streams and sales in just its first day or so. The single is the lead cut from her eighth studio album ANTI, which made quite the splash last week when it appeared with just a few hour’s notice.

Alessia Cara’s debut hit, “Here”, drops from number five to number ten this week, making room for plenty of new entries. The song has spent months within the top ten, and it appears that its time may be coming to a close.
