HBO Go Now On Xbox One

Following
This article is more than 9 years old.

In what might as well be described as a small victory for Microsoft, HBO's online app HBO Go has landed on the Xbox One.

This makes the Xbox One the only new-gen console with HBO viewing options, with PS4 and Wii U left out in the cold.

For Xbox One owners, this means streaming of all HBO shows from Game of Thrones to Boardwalk Empire---so long as you have an HBO subscription or are borrowing one from a friend or family member.

It also means that when HBO Go rolls out as a stand-alone service, you'll be able to cut the cord and watch without paying for all those superfluous channels.

For my part, I find I'm using my old consoles less and less, and the new-gen machines more and more. But until now, HBO hasn't been available on these. This hasn't been too big of a deal without Game of Thrones currently running, but I'll certainly tune in more now that I can fire it up on the Xbox One.

For PS4 and Wii U owners, hopefully an app will be ready by the next season of Game of Thrones.

And, because this is truly bad pun territory, I need to quote the press release:

“Xbox is one of our subscribers’ favorite ways to access HBO GO and its incredible breadth of award-winning programming,” said Jeff Dallesandro, Vice President, Digital Domestic Network Distribution, HBO. “Now, Xbox One users can get in on the action and Kinect with the very best HBO series and films on this innovative, state-of-the-art device.”

Get it? Kinect with the very best HBO series and films...? Get it?

Oh man, I'm dying over here.

Xbox One also recently launched apps for Crunchyroll, Movieplex Play, and Encore Play.
