This article is more than 9 years old.

Up to now, American wars in the Middle East have proven far from popular. However, Obama's campaign against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria is proving a rare exception, garnering widespread support across the region.

According to a poll conducted by the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies, 56 percent of people surveyed across seven Middle Eastern countries either "strongly support" or "support" western led airstrikes against ISIS.

A majority in every country surveyed support  the military campaign, reaching its zenith in Lebanon where 68 percent and 8 percent of respondents indicated "strong support" and "support" respectively. Support is also high in Iraq - 75 percent of Iraqis said they support airstrikes against ISIS.
