Gartner's Hyper Cycle For 3D Printing Predicts Enterprise & Medical Application Growth

This article is more than 9 years old.

3D Printing mainstream adoption in consumer markets is still five to ten years away, with adoption of 3D Printing for Prototyping accelerating through all industries over the next two years.  Gartner ’s latest Hype Cycle for 3D Printing also predicts that the next major wave of adoption will be in enterprise and medical applications over the next two to five years.

In the Gartner report Hype Cycle for 3D Printing, Pete Basiliere and Michael Shanler predict that 3D Printing for Prototyping, considered by many analysts to be the most mainstream use of 3D Printing today, will continue to see rapid adoption over the next two years across all industries.

Gartner's Hype Cycle for 3D Printing is shown below.

In two to five years, there will be greater adoption of enterprise 3D printing, nurtured in part by the continued acceptance and use of 3D print creation software, 3D scanners and 3D printing service bureaus. "At around this time, 3D printing of medical devices will offer exciting, life-altering benefits that will result in global use of 3D printing technology for prosthetics and implants," added Mr. Basiliere.
