At this year's conference, which runs Wednesday and Thursday in San Francisco, Forbes will be there to cover the unexpected news, but we already have a few ideas about what might be announced, or at least what areas we expect to see growing in the next year.
First, Google Fit. Google is expected to announce its foray into collecting and aggregating user health data into one place. Forbes' Parmy Olson got the scoop earlier this month.
Google Fit will let popular activity and fitness trackers share data with the service through an API, and Google will also reportedly announce partnerships with wearable device makers at I/O.
Wearables should also be a strong theme at this year's I/O. Google teased an announcement of Android Wear in March, which showed us a future where wearables, especially smart watches, could give users tailored, on-the-go information without being as conspicuous as Google Glass.
Android Wear can also work with fitness bands and could eventually expand beyond watches. But for this year, the watches themselves will be in the spotlight.
We already know that LG and Motorola will be making the first Android smartwatches. LG's G Watch will be a square face, and Motorola's Moto 360 will have an unprecedented round face. Expect many more details from the hardware manufacturers and the way they'll intertwine with the new platform.
And hey, if you believe the rumors on Secret, attendees will be getting a smartwatch of their own at the conference -- or maybe even a choice between LG and Motorola.
Samsung is also rumored to be announcing an Android Wear smartwatch at I/O, similar to its Gear devices, according to CNET.
Google Nest, Google's big-name acquisition of the year, could announce new ways for developers to move into the smart-home arena. Nest just announced a developer program and is holding events at I/O to discuss it further.
Google Glass might also have a few announcements up its sleeve. The device has had a wild and rough year. Glass gained some style and better camouflage through new options available on prescription glasses frames and sunglasses. But its users also encountered muggers, Sarah Slocums and Daily Show correspondents at every turn.
But it's forging on ahead. Glass announced 12 new Glassware apps Tuesday morning just ahead of I/O, including offerings from Duolingo, Shazam and the Guardian. Users will now be able to get guided stargazing overlays, broadcast live video and have a personal trainer in the corner of their eye, and more could be ahead at the conference.
What else? Google+ might be taking a rest after the highly discussed departure of its head, Vic Gundotra. No events on the schedule seem to feature the social network this year. Android TV is rumored for a relaunch -- or really, a rebranding of the mostly defunct Google TV.
Google's annual I/O developers conference takes place Wednesday and Thursday, June 25 and 26 in San Francisco.
