This article is more than 9 years old.

1. Be Approachable and Likable.  People want to work with those whom they like.  Therefore, the last thing you want to do is come across as rigid or overly demanding.  Go with the flow.

The person liking you is one significant piece of the puzzle.

2. Take an interest in both the company and person.  When you take an interest in a company, it means doing the proper research prior to the interview, however it goes further.  To make an interviewer like you better than other applicants, the secret is in taking an interest in them and discussing what you can do for them.

3. Adapt to the Interviewer's Personality Style.  An interviewer will not adapt to your personality, rather you must adapt and do it quickly.  If the person is very detail oriented, you should be detail oriented, if the person is a goal driven individual, focus on how you achieve results.

They're attitude has nothing to do with you, rather it's their style of interviewing and it has worked for them so they don't deviate from what they have seen yields the best results for them.

4. Focus During the Interview.  Think about nothing else but listening to the interviewer and hearing what they say.  This takes away any nerves you may have and increases your chances of giving answers that are not only relevant, but that are impressive as well.

5. Write Down Your Career Goals Prior.  Know where you're going in your career.  Interviewers like applicants who are focused, organized and driven - things that you cannot be if you don't have a clear goal.

6. Always Thank the Interviewer Following the Interview - Don't play hard to get.  People like to feel appreciated.

7. Explain things in a thorough, honest and positive manner -

8. Don't go into the less impressive aspects of your position or skill-set, it will bring down the entire value of your offering to the company.

If you don't know how to do something or don't have experience in something, phrase your answer as "I don't know how to do it yet, but I'll learn" or "I don't have experience in that yet, but I'll learn."

9. Smile, be friendly.  When you ask questions, don't pry, rather ask for info ration.

10. Set an end goal of getting a job offer.  Nothing more, nothing less; focus on doing the work to get there.  First, identify the obstacles. Then identify what you're going to do to achieve those goals.

11. Take notes, never interrupt.  People hate being interrupted.  Listen carefully and use what they give you to help guide your answers.

12.  Answer what you're doing at your current company in a phrase that solves a problem.  Therefore, someone doesn't sell insurance, rather they help households mitigate the risk of accidents and their potential financial pitfalls.

13. People want to hire job seekers who have a concern about the company's success as opposed to those who just focus on their own personal gains.
