New 'Call Of Duty: Black Ops 3' Map 'Redwood' Looks A Lot Like Endor

This article is more than 8 years old.

The new Call of Duty: Black Ops III multiplayer map looks a lot like the moon of Endor. The home of the lovable, fuzzy Ewoks was one of my favorite parts of Return of the Jedi, and it's a location in Star Wars: Battlefront as well.

Maybe it's just that I have Star Wars on the brain, but look at that image up top (and the two below) and tell me it doesn't shout "Endor!" at you. I say this having just visited the redwoods also, so the map probably should be screaming "Redwoods!" at me, but no.

Actually the map, weirdly titled "Redwood" and not "Endor," looks pretty sweet. I can't think of another Call of Duty map quite like it, though perhaps readers could point me to one that I've forgotten or missed.

Most outdoor maps in the franchise feel less grand than this. Many feel almost urban since they're often dominated by structures. Hopefully we get some real tree-to-tree combat. The platforms up in the trees could be pretty sweet now that we've got double-jump and wall running and such. I'm picturing jumping tree to tree in some sort of timberland parkour.

The map was announced during today's Black Ops III live-stream, along with the new Firebreak Specialist class.

Oh, and I'm being tongue-in-cheek about the whole Endor thing. I'm just feeling the hype after playing Star Wars: Battlefront today, and with The Force Awakens just around the corner. My inner Star Wars nerd is taking over.

Black Ops III launches on November 6th on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
