W.K. Kellogg Foundation Seeking $100 Million Of Social Impact Through Investments

This article is more than 10 years old.

The W.K. Kellogg Foundation focuses its work on families, children, education and health in the U.S. Recently, the Foundation launched a $100 million program of "Mission Driven Investing." By investing in for profit businesses that incorporate social missions consistent with the objectives of the Foundation, it can significantly expand its impact without increasing grants.

Acelero Learning, one of the companies in which the Foundation has invested, is achieving dramatic results in its Head Start programs. The company reports that in April, it was selected by the Office of Head Start to receive one of ten national awards for "Excellence in Family Services."

At 1:00 PM Eastern I will be joined live by Tony Berkley, Director of Mission Driven Investing for the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and Aaron Lieberman, the CEO at Acelero Learning to discuss the effectiveness of the Mission Driven Investing program.

The Foundation website says, "Mission Driven Investing (MDI) is a W.K. Kellogg Foundation investment program designed to expand and maximize our efforts in improving the lives of vulnerable children and families."

Acelero Learning from :

Acelero Learning has a very clear mission: to bring a relentless focus on positive child and family outcomes to close the achievement gap and build a better future for children, families, and communities served by the Head Start program. Today, Acelero Learning is a Head Start grantee serving over 4000 young children each year. In every instance, Acelero Learning delegates have made substantial and sustained quality improvements in their communities -- increasing enrollment, improving teacher salaries and qualifications, and dramatically expanding the number of hours of programming for children and families served by Head Start.

Acelero Learning’s Training and Technical Assistance division is focused on helping disseminate the promising practices and approaches utilized in Acelero Learning programs to the larger Head Start community. Through online and in-person trainings, the online SARGE library of tools developed for and within Acelero Learning programs, and the SARGE Affiliate Network, Acelero Learning believes that dedicated Head Start programs can reach significant positive gains for children and families through effective implementation of the Acelero Learning tools and approach.
