MLB Properties And Majestic Athletic Extend Exclusive Partnership For Uniforms And More

With the 2015 Major League Baseball regular season just a couple weeks away, the league has extended a major partnership.

Majestic Athletic and Major League Baseball Properties have reached an extension of their agreement that will see the manufacturer continue to provide products to players and consumers. The wide-ranging contract extension runs through 2019, continuing a relationship that has lasted for more than 30 years.

Through the new agreement, Majestic will retain exclusive rights to design, produce, and distribute on-field uniforms, Authentic Collection apparel, replica jerseys, along with a broad assortment of men’s and women’s fan apparel. While the sides did not reveal the exact figures of what the partnership extension would mean economically, it is described as double-digit growth over the prior agreement. That’s significant as the initial agreement to make Majestic the exclusive provider of authentic jerseys for all 30 clubs in MLB in 2005 was valued at $500 million thus continuing a lucrative centralized revenue stream for all of the owners in the league.

Majestic has said it will continue its long-term commitment to producing all on-field uniforms in the United States at its facility in Easton, Pa.

“The Majestic partnership goes beyond a licensing agreement. It symbolizes the value of collaboration with a leadership team that’s illustrated a tremendous commitment - and product - to generations of Major League Baseball fans,” said Noah Garden, Major League Baseball Executive Vice President, Business. “The Majestic brand has become synonymous with Major League Baseball uniforms and apparel and it’s important we continue one of the most successful and tenured partnerships in licensed sports.”

Garden said that a large part of the long relationship with MLB has been fostered by a mutual understanding of not only the consumer side, but also in providing product to all 30 clubs and changes needed to supply the players. He added that new garment technology would grow over the life of the agreement, with changes expected to arrive beginning next season.

“We’re excited to announce the renewal of this premiere sports license and believe it’s a reflection of mutual trust and seamless partnership with Major League Baseball Properties,” said Jim Pisani, President of Majestic Athletic. “We have achieved strong historical results due to our associates’ tremendous passions and commitments to the business. Their efforts have resulted in elevated product design and development, marketing, and distribution of MLB products.”

Majestic made its MLB on-field debut in 1982 with batting practice jerseys. Since 2005, Majestic has expanded its presence to include uniforms and outerwear for all 30 clubs.

Once seen by analysts as an odd selection rather than apparel behemoths such as Nike, and adidas, Majestic has strengthened its partnership with their products and a strong connectivity with MLB players and fans. Majestic said that during the forthcoming term, the partnership will focus on strategic growth and shaping the future of aspirational performance apparel.
