Sony Officially Unboxes the PlayStation 4

Following
This article is more than 10 years old.

The appeal of unboxing videos has always eluded me, but to keep up with the times, Sony has now unveiled their own deconstruction of the PS4 box, which showcases everything we'll find inside.

The list has been made public before, but to refresh what's seen here, there's the 500 GB system, the new Dualshock, HDMI cable, power cord (minus Xbox's giant brick, mercifully), a tiny headset, USB cable and a $10 PSN store voucher. Also included will be vouchers for a 30 day trial of PS Plus (now necessary for multiplayer), and a trial for Music Unlimited, Sony's solution to their self-imposed "you can't play your own MP3s anymore" issue.

The video is only a minute and a half, with a 30 second intro, so needless to say it's probably not going to take you very long to unbox your PS4 and get it ready to play. I am curious to see how long day one patching might take, but I suppose they're not going to do a video about that.

The more interesting video to watch is last week's teardown, which goes through the nuts and bolts of the system rather than opening the consumer package. That video allowed tech enthusiasts to get a peek at the motherboard, hard drive, fans, heat sinks, power supply and AMD's 64-bit, 8-core APU. Slightly more interesting than USB and HDMI cables.

If you want to be surprised with how everything is bundled up, then skip this spoiler-heavy video. I think I'm being sarcastic, but I'm not terribly sure because of how much everyone seems to love unboxing videos.

One more reminder, the PS4 launches November 15th in the US, and November 28th in Europe. When my Amazon not-day-one-pre-order arrives is anyone's guess.
