What Percentage Of U.S. Wives Earn More Than Their Husbands? [Infographic]

This article is more than 8 years old.

The percentage of American wives earning more than their husbands has slowly increased over the past decade. However, a wife taking home more money than her spouse is still not so common.

According to data compiled by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 29.3 percent of wives earned more than their husbands in 2013 (in families in which both wives and husbands have earnings). Back in 1987, 17.8 percent of U.S. wives brought home more money than their husbands.
