Which management consultancies are providing businesses across sectors with the best guidance on their practice?
To compile this list of America's Best Management Consulting Firms, Forbes collaborated with online statistics provider Statista. To be considered for this list, companies had to fall into one of the following categories: "classic" management consultancy firms, IT consultancies, advisory branches of auditing firms, and consulting branches of agencies.
Firms were sourced for consideration through lists of associations, consulting directories, competitions, and company databases, as well as through the PR and marketing departments of 50 large management consulting firms.
Results are based on two online surveys. The first, of 7,286 partners and project managers from management consultancies, was conducted between November 16 and December 18, 2015 and asked these professionals to make recommendations of consultancies (excluding their own) across 15 industries and 16 functional areas, including strategy, human resources consulting, and supply chain management.

The second survey, of 1,316 management consultancy clients, was conducted between January 21 and February 4, 2016. Executives participating in this survey were asked to recommend consultancies on a list falling within industries and functional areas in which they have worked with a consultancy in the last four years.
In each industry and functional area, consultancies were then sorted into starred categories according to the number of total recommendations received from colleagues and clients. Consultancies are alphabetized within each starred category. Those with very few recommendations were excluded from the list.
Of the more than 250 companies listed here, a few garner recommendations in every functional area, with the exception of Executive Search. Bain & Company earns a nod in each category, as does
KPMG Consulting Services makes the list in every functional area with the exception of Sustainability (and Executive Search), as does PwC network member strategy&. Accenture earns recommendations in each industry sector. So does Deloitte Consulting, McKinsey & Company, PricewaterhouseCoopers Advisory Services, and The Boston Consulting Group. EY pulls in a check in every sector column with the exception of Aerospace & Defense, IBM Global Business Services for every sector except for Oil & Gas, and KPMG Consulting Practice for all but Automotive.
