Mayweather Vs. Pacquiao Tickets Remain Available And Ridiculously Priced

This article is more than 8 years old.

Are you interested in purchasing tickets to the fight of the decade between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao?  If so, then expect to spend a ridiculous amount of money on a secondary ticket market.  There is no shortage of tickets available for the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight, but get-in prices for the worst seats have eclipsed $3,500 and the best views cost upwards of $350,000 per ticket .

Secondary ticket provider StubHub has more than 950 tickets available for purchase on its Mayweather vs. Pacquiao dedicated webpage.  At 1:00 p.m. ET on April 28, the lowest listed price on that page was $3,837 with the most expensive ticket listed at $351,005.  The number of listings was sitting at around 900 in total; as listings have increased, the get-in price has shifted lower.  More listings have recently shown up on StubHub as of late due to the fact that StubHub requires sellers to first show proof of tickets before a listing goes live.

According to StubHub, by 6:30 p.m. ET on April 28, the average Mayweather vs. Pacquiao ticket sold on the secondary market operator was for $6,820 .  The high was a floor-side ticket for $35,000 and the low was an upper-level ticket at roughly $4,000.  This demonstrates that while ticket listings are breaking $300,000, people are choosing to save for retirement or buy a house over spending an exorbitant money on seeing a few minutes of a fight in person.  However, it also shows that the get-in price is what it is -- people will spend thousands of dollars for the opportunity to say that they were there when Mayweather and Pacquiao met for likely the last time of their careers.

Another related interesting item that people are spending money on is a ticket for the weigh-in of Mayweather and Pacquiao on the Friday prior to the main event.  Per StubHub's statistics, the average price sold for the weigh-in is $155 .  StubHub is donating all profits from weigh-in sales to charity, with proceeds split evenly between Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health (Pacquiao's charity) and the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation (Mayweather's charity).

Individuals interested in attending the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight or any events related thereto have options when it comes to secondary market offerings.  StubHub competitor SeatSmart has its own webpage dedicated to tickets for the event.  As of this morning, the get-in price on SeatSmart is $2750, with a high price of $315,000 for Row AA on the floor next to the ring.  That same listing (Floor E, Row AA) is on StubHub for $351,005.25.

There is no doubt that tickets to the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight are priced ridiculously.  No matter which secondary market operator is used, those who want to see the event live will be forced to spend more money than what is comfortable.  However, it does appear that prices are gradually shifting lower with more tickets being offered for sale.  Further, it seems as though there is a disparity in pricing among various secondary ticket providers.

Thus far, the vast majority of tickets sold to the event have come from inside the U.S., with California leading the way, followed by Texas and Florida .  Outside of the U.S., the U.K. has expressed the most interest with a large gap between it and Australia with regard to interest in purchasing tickets.
