Self-driving cars are grabbing more and more headlines but are people actually ready for them? The World Economic Forum carried out a survey in conjunction with the Boston Consulting Group to gauge consumers' attitudes towards self-driving cars. It found that 58 percent of global respondents would take a ride in a fully self-driving vehicle with acceptance levels highest in emerging markets.
85 percent of people in India said they were likely to try a self-driving car, along with 75 percent of Chinese respondents. Enthusiasm was found to be lowest in Germany and Japan where only 44 and 36 percent of people respectively would try a driverless car. Interestingly, the survey found only 35 percent of global respondents would let their children ride alone in one while most consumers would also be reluctant to share a self-driving taxi with strangers.
