'Samurai Jack' Is Back

This article is more than 8 years old.

Samurai Jack is coming back to the Cartoon Network after over a decade out of action. That's according to Adult Swim, which posted the below teaser trailer.

The cartoon will air during Adult Swim's Toonami block.

Series creator Genndy Tartakovsky is also returning to helm the new episodes. And maybe none of this should come as a surprise.

Since the show went off the air, it's grown in popularity and maintained a presence as a comic book, becoming something of a cult classic.

"I think through the years, after we finished Jack, almost every year it seems like Samurai Jack has gotten more and more popular and more and more people have seen it," Tartakovsky told ComicBook.com this past September. "I feel like it's culminating to a fever pitch almost. I feel like it's time to maybe finish the story. We've been trying to get the feature off the ground but maybe that's just fate's way of saying this is a television thing and maybe it should be a mini-series or something like that."

Whether this is just a mini-series or something bigger remains to be seen. For now, all we've been given is this tiny teaser:

We really needed some good cartoon news to offset the fact that Gravity Falls will be ending at the end of Season 2.

Certainly for fans of the animated series, this is a big deal no matter how you spin it.

The new episodes of Samurai Jack will air in 2016.

Now might be a good time to introduce your kids to the series, which is available to purchase on Amazon but not available on Netflix streaming.
