National Grilled Cheese Day, the annual holiday where we as a country reflect on our affinity for the easy-to-prepare, low-cost sandwich option, is finally upon us.

Americans across the nation will surely utilize a bevy of different cheeses as their preferred gooey center of the toasty treat. Based upon a survey of approximately 28,869 Americans between 2014 and 2015, the brand of choice is Kraft Singles for 37.95% of those surveyed.

Aside from Kraft Singles, Americans are generally willing not to go with a name brand single-serving American cheese, with assorted store brands making up the second biggest percentage at 20.8%. While Kraft was the go-to American cheese at the time, consumer research from IRI forecasts that Americans are moving away from unflavored cheeses toward bolder flavors: Flavored cheeses grew 4.5% in volume sales in December 2015, while unflavored cheese grew only 0.5%.
