Lamborghini Aventador Superveloce Roadster Debuts at Quail Lodge

This article is more than 8 years old.

Aventador 750-4 Superveloce sold out not long after its unveiling in Geneva last March. Lamborghini took the next logical step, creating the Aventador Superveloce Roadster, one of the fastest open cars on the planet, with a top speed in excess of 217 mph.

CEO Stephan Winkelmann has performed his job as Sant’Agata’s supreme salesman, lining up cash deposits from Lamborghini clients for most of the 500 SV Roadsters slated for production. But a few may still be available, a week after the car’s public debut at the always over-the-top Quail Motorsports Gathering held at Quail Lodge in Carmel Valley.

Aventador Superveloce is exotic, in the extreme. Just behind the driver is a naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V12 that screams and howls, producing 750 horsepower at 8400 rpm. Top speed is limited to 217 mph—it can go considerably faster if taken off its computer-scripted leash. Aventador SV is engineered for astounding acceleration: it can pass 60 mph in less than 2.8 seconds. With a lightweight single-clutch design, the transmission is the fastest shifting automated gearbox on the planet, changing gears in milliseconds, equal to the shift times of a Formula One race car. All that power goes to the ground through a lightweight four-wheel drive system. The Superveloce Roadster has all the same aerodynamic pieces of its coupe brother, which increase downforce by more than 150 percent compared to the "mainstream" Aventador.

It looks great in the photos shot at its Quail Lodge debut this past weekend in Carmel, and in the studio photos below, but the Aventador SV Roadster finished in “Blue Le Mans” is far more stunning in person, the type of impactful color that only a super exotic car can pull off. Lamborghinis are at their best finished in exotic colors.
