Hall of Fame Los Angeles Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully underwent a recommended surgery today and on the advice of his doctors, he will miss the Dodgers' postseason games to rest up. Scully said he is “looking forward to returning to the Dodgers for the 2016 season.” Next season will be his 67th with the club and his last broadcasting.
Neither Scully nor the Dodgers would disclose what the surgery addresses.
Scully will turn 88 in November and has cut back on traveling in recent years. He joined Red Barber and Connie Desmond has part of the Brooklyn Dodgers broadcast team in 1950.
According to the National Baseball Hall of Fame, Scully’s years of service are believed to be the longest tenure of any broadcaster in sports history.
