New Cel-Shaded 'Transformers: Devastation' Leaked

Following
This article is more than 8 years old.

With the build up to this year’s E3 we’ve already started to see a few leaks. With one of these being for the cel-shaded brawler Transformers: Devastation.

The main narrative premise of the game has the Autobots take on the Decepticons when Megatron finds a way to collect the huge power of plasma energy to cyberform the Earth.

What’s more the game will feature five playable Autobots in the form of Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Sideswipe, Wheeljack, and Grimlock. Fans will also be happy to hear that the English voice cast from the original TV series will be returning, with the likes of Peter Cullen (Optimus Prime), Dan Gilvezan (Bubblebee) and Frank Welker (Megatron and Soundwave) among others.

The really interesting part of this leak is that apparently Platinum Games are developing this, so that’s means the combat and action mechanics will be positively stellar.

In addition to all this there will be five difficulty levels and a customization setup, though the latter sounds a bit out of place as the Transformers are more robots than pilotable mecha.

The other obvious aspect that does jump out is how nicely the cel-shading has been handled. This is notoriously difficult to pull off well in games and while these static screenshots look impressive, I am definitely curious to see how it all holds together in motion.

As an aside it’s always sad how most publishers try to make animated properties look “real”, so its nice to see Platinum Games being allowed to go back to the host material and make it look like the original animation.

I’m sure we’ll hear more at E3 but in the meantime check out some of these screenshots, as they do if nothing else look rather lovely.

The game will be released this October on PS4, Xbox One, PS3 and Xbox 360.
