HTC Vive Is The First VR Experience That Made Me Emotional

This article is more than 8 years old.

HTC Vive turned out to be the most stunning tech demo of my entire life. Visually it was flawless, immersing me completely in the environments. During demos at PAX Prime and Dota 2 International competition, I walked around with my own two feet on a underwater shipwreck with fish swimming out of my way as I walked the deck. A gigantic whale loomed overhead, slowly moving by and  looking directly into my eyes as its tonnage moved past me. I was there, it was a real place.

I walked around Portal 2 and took apart the robot Atlas to see what made him tick, opened a drawer full of tiny men who worshiped me as a god and was belittled by a monstrously huge GLaDOS.

I painted in virtual reality with light and fire, shot arrows at floating balloons and I even had a chance to explore the shopkeeper's shop from DoTA 2 searching for glyphs that shrank me down to the size of an ant with gigantic spiders and toads leaping out at me and sitting on the window sill looking out into a forest full of glowing eyes staring at me back .

The HTC Vive is like nothing I've experienced before and if you get the chance, you need to try it out for yourself. A limited quantity of HTC Vive's will be available this holiday season and the device will have a full launch early next year.
