Enslaved By Your Alarm Clock? Only 1 In 7 Americans Wake Up Feeling Fresh Every Day [Infographic]

This article is more than 8 years old.

If you feel enslaved by your alarm clock, you certainly aren't alone. According to research conducted by YouGov, only 1 in 7 Americans wake up feeling fresh every day of the week. Traditionally, eight hours sleep has always been recommended as optimal by experts, though many have also suggested seven hours should be sufficient.

However, 45 percent of Americans sleeping 7 to 8 hours each night reported feeling tired or poorly rested up to three times a week. 27 percent of people said they wake up tired on 4 or more days per week. Naturally, those who manage a mere six hours or less are feeling the brunt of the fatigue. 54 percent of people with six or less hours sleep said they wake up feeling tired 4 or more days per week. The explanation for the widespread tiredness is pretty obvious, according to YouGov. People just aren't getting enough sleep.
