Most of us are aware that companies like
Google is rolling out "Your Timeline," a feature that allows you to visualize your routines to see everywhere you've been that day, month or year.
It's an easy way to get an idea of the types of places you regularly spend your time or what shapes your routes usually take. On top of that, Google Photos users will also be able to see the locations and time stamps of photos they've taken. The feature is available on desktop and Android.
Of course, it's easy to see that this feature could make some users uncomfortable, considering it implies that Google Maps knows everywhere you've been. (Though it only works for users who have opted in to track their Google Maps Location History.) Google insists that the timeline is only visible to you and you can even edit or delete parts of your history that you might not want on the record.
A reminder for privacy-conscious users: Last month, Google rolled out a new hub to manage privacy settings, an easy way to get a better idea of all of the things Google keeps track of, including your Location History.
