How Peter Voogd Went From Zero To A Six-Figure Income In 6 Months

This article is more than 8 years old.

At age 18, he told himself that he’d never work a normal job again. Now Peter Voogd is a millionaire media entrepreneur and best-selling book author. But generating wealth wasn’t always glamorous for Voogd.

“I didn’t even have money to go to the drive-thru,” Voogd recalls. His frustration with finances and his high school job forced him to explore opportunities to earn extra income. So he started a business selling things on Ebay, making $91 in his first day (eighteen dollars more than the $63 he had been making at his minimum wage job). When he saw the opportunity in entrepreneurship, he never looked back.

Voogd took roles in direct sales to learn important entrepreneurial skills like sales and management, which would serve him well in the ventures ahead.  Driven to reach his personal goal of reaching one million dollars in sales, Voogd reached out to others who had already reached that goal (a strategy Voogd still uses today).

“I’m consistently reaching out, adding value. I find the best of the best at what I want to do and who I want to emulate and connect with, and I reach out to them,” Voogd shares. The strategy worked and Voogd reached his sales goals. His passion for connecting and helping others fueled the launch of his Game Changers Academy, an invite-only community of entrepreneurs and young professionals.

Now armed with his army of entrepreneurial “Game Changers,” and high-powered contacts, Voogd wrote his actionable business book Six Months to Six Figures, which has become a 27-time bestselling book on Amazon and a Top 5 audiobook on Audible. The advice has helped thousands define their dreams and reach their business goals. But life wasn’t easy for Voogd as an early entrepreneur.

“I had a lot of drive and ambition and energy, but that’s not enough,” Voogd says today. “The key is doing the unrequired things that most people don’t do.”

Read on to learn the “unrequired things” to which Voogd attributes his business success...

3 Keys to Peter Voogd’s Success:

  1. Get clear on your motivating force.

"You'll never know how strong you really are until being strong is the only option you have," Voogd recalls from his early days selling. “I had to really, really get clear on who I was, what I wanted.”

Voogd suggests that you write down your goals in detail and include your strongest reasons why you want to achieve those goals. When you review the goals each day, he suggests that you not only focus on the goals and the reasons why you have those goals, but also how you will feel once you reach those goals.

Voogd suggests that consistent mental reinforcement of your goals will give you the confidence needed to reach them.  The strategy worked for him. Voogd shares, “The biggest key is, I kept faith until the last second.”

  1. Curate your circle of influence.

Voogd operates on a strict philosophy that you become like the people you spend the most time with.

“The quote I heard that really changed the game for me was ‘If you want to be a millionaire, who do you talk to?’” Voogd says. “The answer is ‘Billionaires – because you’ll get there faster.’” Voogd says. He recalls thinking to himself, “Oh my gosh, I’m communicating with the wrong people!”

Voogd believes that anybody can develop a world-class network. “You have to realize that everyone who has a network now once didn’t,”  he says. The key is starting small and being persistent. To keep his network growing, Voogd maintains weekly habits. Which brings me to the third and final key to success…

  1. Develop the right habits.

“Sadly, I know a lot of broke geniuses,” Voogd laments. The gap between knowledge and application, he says, is rooted in a lack of consistency.

“Inspiration is needed to create action, but you need the habits,” he says. If you want to reach ambitious goals, Voogd recommends that you write down the three most important habits that will drive the desired outcomes. These key behaviors will become the driving force behind your progress, and by writing them down, you increase your chances of success.

It’s clear that Voogd prioritizes his professional goals, something that has served his career well.  He believes, “Anything is possible to those who value their goals, their dreams, and their visions over their current excuses or reality.”
