Why Every Organization Must Experiment More

This article is more than 9 years old.

Organizations around the world all want to know what the future of work is going to look like and what they should do to prepare. The only thing that is constant in today's business environment is rapid change, and the best way to mitigate risk and identify opportunities in this type of an environment is to run experiments; that is test out ideas and implement the ones that are successful.

Gary Hamel has championed this idea for quite some time and has stated several times that the organizations that run the most experiments at a faster pace are the ones that are going to win. I've already written about how Adobe is changing the innovation game with their KickStart program, but we need more companies that are willing to give employees the resources  and the training they need to innovate.

In this latest episode of the Future In 5, I expand on this topic in more detail and challenge organizations to implement their own programs that allow for experimentation to happen at any level and by any employee. Our organizations need to be run like labs and less like manufacturing facilities that have to follow a step-by-step approach to getting things done.

What is your organization doing to encourage experimentation?
