Netflix Now Has Every Episode Of 'Friends'

This article is more than 9 years old.

Netflix is ringing in the New Year by offering every episode of the comedy show Friends on-demand. All 10 seasons — which includes 236 episodes — were added to Netflix on January 1st. That is over 86 hours of Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, Joey, Chandler and Ross. Binge-watching Friends on Netflix is much more convenient than switching between the show's 21 Blu-ray discs or 40 DVD discs. Netflix can be accessed through PCs, video game consoles, digital media players, smartphones, tablets and set top boxes.

The addition of Friends does not come as a surprise because Netflix said in October 2014 that every episode would be added on New Year’s Day. On October 15, Netflix also uploaded a recent performance of the Friends theme song "I'll Be There For You" by The Rembrandts on location at the Central Perk Pop Up in New York City. Here is the performance:

Friends was produced by Bright/Kauffman/Crane Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. Friends originally aired on NBC between September 22, 1994 and May 6, 2004. When the final episode aired, 52.5 million Americans tuned in.

On Netflix, Friends is in HD and widescreen. To remaster the show, Warner Bros. had to rescan all of the episodes in HD from its original 35mm film. The images also had to be up-converted from the standard 4x3 aspect ratio to 16x9, according to BroadcastingCable.com. Netflix will have several lost episodes that are not available anywhere else, featuring Rachel (played by Jennifer Aniston) and Joey (played by Matt LeBlanc) in a romantic relationship.

Some of the other TV shows that are being added to Netflix in January include The Adventures of Puss In Boots (Season 1), Beauty & The Beast (Season 2), Being Human (Season 4), Dallas (Season 3), The Fall (Season 2), Psych (Season 8), White Collar (Season 5), Wolfblood (Season 3) and Z Nation (Season 1). There was a bit of a hiccup when Friends was added to Netflix  on New Year’s Day. Netflix users tried to find the show by searching "friends" on the morning of New Year's Day, but the show could not be found so users complained on Twitter However, it was found by searching for “f.r.i.e.n.d.s.” or the name of a cast member. That issue was fixed by the end of the day.
