Hot on the heels of their stellar collaboration with Altuzarra,
“This spring, we wanted to offer our guests a collection that embraced color, print and pattern in a bold, fresh way,” Stacia
The brand was founded in 1959 by Lilly Pulitzer with unlikely origins. Initially, the Palm Beach socialite opened a juice stand near swanky Worth Avenue to sell fresh orange juice made from the citrus groves owned by her husband, Peter Pulitzer. Always wanting to present herself perfectly, she created her now signature shift dresses as a uniform because the bright colors and patterns hid the juice stains. Her dresses quickly began outselling her juice and that’s how her resort line was launched. The namesake label earned her an impressive following, including Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, her former classmate at the revered Miss Porter’s School.
The collaboration is sure to please old and new fans alike. “Target is a design leader known for offering an unparalleled assortment of stylish, affordable products,” Jane Schoenborn, vice president of creative communications at Lilly Pulitzer, has said. “The Lilly Pulitzer for Target collection marks a new chapter for our brand, and we’re excited to give Lilly fans everywhere, including those who have loved the brand for years and those who will get to know it for the first time through this collaboration, a chance to experience this incredibly chic lifestyle collection.”
Dubbed the “Queen of Prep,” the late Lilly Pulitzer, who passed away in 2013 at the age of 81, once said, “style isn’t just about what you wear, it’s about how you live.” The Target collection lives up to that notion, encompassing a full lifestyle range, similar to their partnerships with Missoni and Liberty of London. On the home décor end, everything from lawn chairs to throw pillows to plates, serving dishes, wine stoppers and glassware is available. Also, while many Target capsule collections only go up to a size 16, now there will be plenty of plus size offerings. And with prices ranging from $2 to $150, with about 200 items under $30, the line really does have something for everyone.
