Get A First Look At The Lilly Pulitzer For Target Collaboration

This article is more than 9 years old.

Hot on the heels of their stellar collaboration with Altuzarra, Target just announced their next partnership with Lilly Pulitzer. And it’s as charming and bright as you’d expect. Lilly Pulitzer’s signature cheery prints make their Target debut on clothing for women and girls, as well as accessories, shoes, beach wear, home décor, outdoor entertaining pieces, beauty, travel essentials, and more. The 250-piece collection will exclusively hit Target stores and Target.com in the U.S. and Canada on April 19th, featuring 15 exclusive prints that were inspired by the vast Lilly Pulitzer archives and created especially for Target by the brand’s artists. Aiming to put a modern spin on the label’s take on resort wear, the clothing and accessories couldn’t be more warm weather-ready. With ebullient prints splashed across classic-cut bikinis, bright coverups, totes, sandals, hats and even umbrellas and hammocks, it’s practically a one-stop shop for any poolside occasion. Breezy separates like airy tanks, eyelet blouses, kicky shorts, botanical-print jumpsuits and those traditional Lilly Pulitzer shift dresses take you from beach to boardwalk and beyond.

“This spring, we wanted to offer our guests a collection that embraced color, print and pattern in a bold, fresh way,” Stacia Andersen , senior vice president of apparel and accessories at Target, has said. “As we started to think about the perfect partner to collaborate with, Lilly Pulitzer was the clear choice given the brand’s inspiring heritage, authority with print and pattern and resort-chic aesthetic.”

The brand was founded in 1959 by Lilly Pulitzer with unlikely origins. Initially, the Palm Beach socialite opened a juice stand near swanky Worth Avenue to sell fresh orange juice made from the citrus groves owned by her husband, Peter Pulitzer. Always wanting to present herself perfectly, she created her now signature shift dresses as a uniform because the bright colors and patterns hid the juice stains. Her dresses quickly began outselling her juice and that’s how her resort line was launched. The namesake label earned her an impressive following, including Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, her former classmate at the revered Miss Porter’s School.

The collaboration is sure to please old and new fans alike. “Target is a design leader known for offering an unparalleled assortment of stylish, affordable products,” Jane Schoenborn, vice president of creative communications at Lilly Pulitzer, has said. “The Lilly Pulitzer for Target collection marks a new chapter for our brand, and we’re excited to give Lilly fans everywhere, including those who have loved the brand for years and those who will get to know it for the first time through this collaboration, a chance to experience this incredibly chic lifestyle collection.”

Dubbed the “Queen of Prep,” the late Lilly Pulitzer, who passed away in 2013 at the age of 81, once said, “style isn’t just about what you wear, it’s about how you live.” The Target collection lives up to that notion, encompassing a full lifestyle range, similar to their partnerships with Missoni and Liberty of London. On the home décor end, everything from lawn chairs to throw pillows to plates, serving dishes, wine stoppers and glassware is available. Also, while many Target capsule collections only go up to a size 16, now there will be plenty of plus size offerings. And with prices ranging from $2 to $150, with about 200 items under $30, the line really does have something for everyone.
