McLaren To Debut 570S Coupe At New York Auto Show

This article is more than 9 years old.

After much anticipation, McLaren confirmed that the first model in its Sports Series family will be named the 570S Coupé. The 570S is the first model in the sports car segment from the automaker.

While the Geneva Auto Show was stacked with the 675LT, the P1 GTR and a F1 GTR Longtail, the more affordable line from the British car company will finally be unveiled April 1 at the 115th New York International Auto Show.

The name alludes to its power output of 570PS (562hp) -- courtesy of a 3.8-liter V-8 -- while also being in line with the naming tradition of the 650S. Car and Driver confirmed that the two-seater will also boast the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission of the 650S and 675LT.

While there's not much to see just yet, McLaren says the carbon-structured, flying buttress design of the 570S will optimize aerodynamics and increase downforce. "Every Sports Series model will share its DNA with the Super Series and Ultimate Series that sit above it in the McLaren hierarchy," reads the press release. In other words, it will probably look a lot like the 650S.

However, to make the cars more affordable, the Sports Series will lack the active suspension of the premium 650S.

According to Car and Driver, there will be two variants on the coupe from launch, an entry level 'C' and a more powerful 'S.' The company plans to build around 2,500 of the cars per year, making it the highest-volume McLaren yet.

Pricing for the entry-level Sports Series is expected to be in the $152k and $184k range (in line with the Porsche 911 Turbo or the Turbo S).
