Cell Phones Are America's Primary Driving Distraction [Infographic]

Sending instant messages via smartphone while you drive down the freeway at 100mph is a recipe for disaster. Nevertheless, plenty of Americans still do it, according to research from Harris Interactive. 37 percent of people admitted sending text messages at least once from behind the wheel while 14 percent do it frequently.

Answering the cell phone is an even bigger problem, with three quarters of Americans admitting to talking on the phone while driving at least once while 21 percent of people do it frequently. Even though the cell phone is the king of driving distractions, there are plenty of others like personal grooming or even reading the newspaper. Two in ten Americans have admitted to reading while driving at least once!
