Billionaire Stewart Rahr's $10 Million Gift Is Largest In Make A Wish History

This article is more than 10 years old.

"I will continue to do this until science finds a cure for each and every one of these terrible diseases," Rahr said in a speech.

Rahr had previously given $3.8 million in donations to Make A Wish. His latest gift further cements his title as "Largest Wish Grantor" in the organization's history.

The event, hosted at Cipriani on Wall Street, was MCed by Nigel Barker of America's Next Top Model. And in typical Rahr fashion, his own table was stocked with notable names, albeit a bizarre mixture thereof. On his right sat  longtime friend Donald Trump and his wife Melania. To Trump's right was industrialist David Koch, the world's sixth richest man. To Koch's right sat musician John Legend. Back over to Rahr's left sat LL Cool J. And to LL's left sat Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony.

Via video, Rahr was further congratulated by some of the familiar faces that appear in photos hung on his office wall: Leonardo diCaprio, Alicia Keys, Mark Wahlberg, Lionel Richie and former president Bill Clinton.

Rahr talked about his own childhood battle with polio, which he grappled with for the better part of three years. He ended his speech by hinting that he plans to donate more still.

"All we can take with us is only that which we can give away," Rahr said.
